Info for StudentsInternational Phone Cards
There are many different kinds of international pre-paid telephone cards available for purchase through many different sources. The cards can be purchased in $5.00 increments, ranging from $5-$50, and the number of minutes purchased varies greatly, according to individual cards. All of the major national telecommunications companies offer phone cards, although many smaller companies specializing in phone cards also provide good products at significantly cheaper rates (in the $.03-.05 per minute range).
Several websites offer excellent, up-to-date source of information on international phone cards, for example, the Union Telecard Alliance website, NobelCom.com and CallingCards.com, where on-line purchases of cards can also be made. When purchasing phone cards from any source, pay special attention not only to the costs per minute, but also to other charges incurred (for example: connection charges; "rounding" practices [how call durations are rounded up to the next minute, etc.]; maintenance fees; etc.) Locally, many stores now sell international phone cards. K-Mart and Walmart always have a good selection of cards. |
